    This Tanabata is the most famous in Japan. It takes place in downtown Sendai. It is held every year from August 6th to 8th.

    Tanabata Hanabi Matsuri

    Though it is outdone by the Tanabata celebrations in Sendai, Hanabi has one night to shine. If you are in Tohoku you should try to enjoy this festival of lights. As with all Japanese events, there will be food and drinks on sale. But please go out early so that you can get a good view, it will be very crowded.

    Jōzenji Streetjazz Festival

    This music Jazz festival is one of the more unique music festivals in the world. Just about anyone can play there regardless of age or skill level. It is also held all over the city so it is hard to miss it. The fact that it is been staged for over two decades is a strong testament to its quality. This I think will continue to be the case as the organizers plan to grow the festival into one of the most loved in the world.
