Hanami will look a whole lot different this year but the main performer is here for the show. Hanami is usually celebrated with a party atmosphere with many people gathering with friends to eat and drink to look at beautiful cherry blossoms. However, due to the coronavirus, this will be scaled down in 2020.
Although hanami parties are off until next year (or next whenever) the cherry blossoms came earlier this year. I think they realized that Sendai and the rest of Japan needed some cheering up so they came early.
Sendai District Meteorological Observatory announced that due to the warm winter, blossoms have come 14 days earlier than they usually do. With everything that is currently happening in the world, it is really nice that the cherry blossoms did not desert us for better times.
So, even though you can’t go with many friends you can still go for a walk and view beautiful cherry blossoms by yourself or with a companion. You can view the blooming cherry blossoms here.
